What is fibre? There are 2 different types of fib

What is fibre?
There are 2 different types of fibre, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibre is dissolvable in water and becomes a gel like substance in the colon. Insoluble fibre is not dissolved in water and moves through your digestive track in the same form. It passes through our digestive system and aids in removing toxins and waste.

Fibre also aids in keeping us fuller for longer, helps maintain a healthy colon, aids in maintaining regular bowel movements, and helps prevent high cholesterol and reduces the risk of certain cancers.

So what is the recommended amount of fibre? 25-38 grams a day. With the average Canadian only taking in 14 grams. There are so many great sources of fibre out there such as beans, pears, avacado, barley, oats to name a few. So next time you are choosing your macros always remember to check the fibre in making healthy decisions.
